Intern Kim in Downtown Arcadia, Indiana

Rachel in Downtown Arcadia, Indiana

Last week many of us from the Hamilton County CVB traveled around the county to take “This Place Matters” pictures at several of our favorite historic spots.

We went north to Arcadia, visited Sheridan and made our final stop for lunch and pictures on the Historic Noblesville Square.  Once we got back we eagerly uploaded the photos to the National Preservation website and were excited to see Hamilton County, Indiana photos mixed in with pictures taken in New York, Chicago, South Carolina and more.  The month of May is Preservation month – so you are NOT too late to get out and take your own photo!

Thursday evening was my weekly date night with my boyfriend (we’re trying to get out and do things this summer, so these weekly rendezvous will probably be the source of many of these blogs). Rather than the usual dinner and a movie, we decided to tap into our inner children and spend the evening at Ben and Ari’s in Fishers. For $10 we played a round of miniature golf. We walked right in, and one of the workers tore herself away from a group of Girl Scouts to get us our clubs and balls. If you’re looking to go, I’d recommend a quick game on an evening during the week – we were the only ones on the course. There were no lines, no waiting, and no impatient patrons behind us, it was great.

The staff at the Hamilton County, Indiana CVB classifies ourselves as “foodies.”  When we are not eating, we are talking about eating.  Heck, we sometimes talk about eating when we ARE eating.  We take our meals very seriously, so when a few of us decided to take our new intern, Danielle, to lunch we couldn’t decide where to go – and not because of a lack of options.  Do we walk to Bub’s Burgers in Carmel for the famous Big Ugly Burger?  Or to we drive to Noblesville for an All-American meal at the Hamilton Restaurant?  But what about filling up on chicken fingers dipped in honey mustard at Nickel Plate in Fishers?  We finally settled on going to Keltie’s in Westfield to try the Beggar’s Purse that our very own Karen Radcliff can not stop raving about.

The Arcadia May Festival is a 2 day action packed annual event that has crafts, a flea market, games, food and a moonwalk (to entertain the young ones or those young at heart).  I had the pleasure of going this past weekend and among the rain drops I took in all that the May Festival has to offer.  I was also excited because for the first year this event was taking place on the street of downtown Arcadia, Indiana instead of at the local park.

May is National Preservation Month and the Hamilton County Convention and Visitors Bureau wants to put the 8 Great Towns of Hamilton County, Indiana on the map.  The National Trust for Historic Preservation is celebrating with a campaign called, “This Place Matters.”

Here’s what’s happening.  Join us, at NOON THIS THURSDAY, MAY 21st.  Meet in front of the Historic Sheriff’s Residence on the Square in Noblesville.  We will be there to pass out signs and take some photos.  Bring your camera, your camera on your phone, and join in the fun.

We’re doing this in partnership with Noblesville Main Street and the Noblesville Preservation Alliance in observation of Preservation Month, but

you might want to go out into your own community – Cicero, Fishers, Carmel, Sheridan, Atlanta, Arcadia or Westfield, snap a photo and upload it!

Take a photograph in front of a place you wish to honor with the official This Place Matters sign (you can print the sign off the website).  Then load it up to the National Trust’s website and share it with folks all over the country.

The weather is beautiful this week, so get outside and enjoy it at someplace in Hamilton County that matters!

Here’s the website where you can get the sign & instructions on uploading: www.PreservationNation.org
